MannyRottie Nov 25, 2007 06:50 AM

I would like to see a herp vet in the NYC or Westchester area, does anyone have any recommendations? I want someone good and when it comes to medical stuff money is no object (living things remember). Anyways anyone with any experience with this, please inform me or email me. Thanks

If you can make it a bit further I would go to Dr. Manaco in Plainview, NY. He is at Old Country Animal Clininc.

Good Luck, Kevin

Manny,

One of the best herp vets you are going to find is Dr. Paul Raiti, and he's right in your backyard.

Paul Raiti, DVM
Beverlie Animal Hospital
17 West Grand Street
Mount Vernon, NY 10552
Tel: (914) 664-2784

Nothing but the best personal experiences here.

If money is no object I would go to the AMC

the folks there specialize in exotics, no one in reptiles specifically. they work hard but miss some very obvious (to herp vets) details. i had an ovum bound basin that they thought was healthily pregnant for over a year. then i had dr. mark stahl look at the AMC xrays and he said "the ovum are opaque. if they were healthy at this size, you'd see through the transparent sacs, little spines." i have a few stories along these lines for AMC. they are passionate though and will go the extra mile - they just are less informed than true herp vets. they are also extremely expensive. AMC actually turned me on to dr. stahl. so if money is no object (your words not mine), ship your animal to dr. stahl in maryland. in the long run, it'll be cheaper than AMC and your animal will get a better medical evaluation / treatment.

dr. stahl did clear up my basin after almost 24 months of being ovum bound. no small feat. she had 12 embryos!
