i just noticed that the heads on female tri-colors that the head is much larger than the males i have been unable to sell any of my clutches because of the genetics they carry that i will be able to prove out this year. but in every case were i had mis-sexed them when the were young it is now very apparent what is male and what is female by head size. i am looking at twenty 2 year olds plus the parents.and its the same in every one. have you seen this as well or is it just my line. also another trait that has popped up in my line, Bob Assetto breed a pair of mine and produced a solid red belly.

Just an observation on my end....

But the females are larger animals, it would go without saying that their heads should be larger. If you could compare head size amongst animals of the same size rather than the same age, that would be more accurate if this holds true.

there cant be more than 2in. difference between any of them and the neck tappers down faster on the male. i also have a female that was a slow starter and the males that are 6in. more than her and her head is the same or slightly more than his and it is differently proportioned.

I do notice the head difference in the adults. Not so much with the babies though. The females heads are not only bigger, but shaped differently. They have "double chins" I just always attributed it to the fact the females are absolute PIGS! My girls will chase me out of their container for food.

i mentioned this because i ended up with more female than i thought i had based on tail length. tom

I find tail length very unreliable. I just pop all of mine.

like i said you got skills girl! i had Lee Abbott best popper there is and we got all girls and that wasn't right at all. hey i know do you give lessons ?

It took me a while to get the hang of it. You have to start further down the tail than you expect.
