Need help feeding very large burmese please

herphobbypets Aug 24, 2003 03:12 PM

Hello, I hope you guys can give me some insight. This is not my first Burmese but it has been a long time since I had some big ones and my sources for food were plentiful then and scarce now. I don't know an exact lenght and weight but they are 16' plus and in good shape. Can someone give me a good guideline on how much to feed them? Is feeding weekly best or should I spread it out some? How many pounds of rabbits should each snake get as a general rule. Also, if anyone knows where I can find an affordable source for frozen rabbits that would help me out also.
Thank you all for your help with my questions.

Feeding once every 10 - 14 days will be fine for a snake that size. (I'm asuming there female because of the size).
Rabbit poundage for that big of a burm realy wouldnt matter. They could eat any size rabbit out there. My 11' male can down a 20 pound rabbit twice a month. So Jumbo's are the size to go with rabbits around 10 - 20 pounds. Pigs might be something to look into.
Take a Look at Tago's Giant feeders site.
Another option is Rodent Pro.
Also , you could do what i do and raise them yourself.

First, I highly recommend Rodentpro.com for your source for rabbits. In terms of size and quantity, we feed our 18' burm two to three 8-10 pound rabbits monthly with a little vitamin supplementation. Although she can certainly take much larger prey, we feel it is much better to go slightly smaller to avoid putting too much stress on their system. All of our burms are in perfect shape with excellent muscle tone. Hope this helps.
