substrate comparison - aspen/lizard litter ...

Niki Aug 24, 2003 03:23 PM

I replaced the substrate today with lizard litter (left corner)
and aspen (right side). I just keep substrate in his sleeping
corners (mostly the lizard litter side) not everywhere.

I highly recommend the lizard litter (natural hemp or kenaf plant)
which as you can see looks light colored like aspen. For small
enclosures it's the best substrate for sulcatas in my opinion.

Teddy, ever the mommy's boy, had to come into the window to
see what I was doing. Always underfoot.

Does your sulcata eat the litter? I tried aspen shavings with my sulcata and he ate a lot of it. I went back to using hay afterwards.

sometimes in the winter he would eat some but it would come
back through. Not since he's been able to go out as he wishes.
Could you use the hay on top of the aspen so he could nibble
if he wanted? I think just using hay is gonna be tough the
bigger he gets.
