A few Gentilis.....

Patton Nov 26, 2007 03:02 PM

Thought I would take a few pics of my '05 Lincoln Co. Ks.
Gentilis from Jeff Hardwick. I'll take some better photo's this spring when things warm up a bit. Meanwhile,
these will have to do.

Nice critters, Phil! Those are great animals. They've got a ton of black cross-overs; very similar to many CO gentilis. I dig the head patterns, too. Let's see some more photos from your collection! I know you've got some nice stuff...

Thanks Cole. I've got a few other things I'll take pics of when I get a chance. How do you get those wiry little boogers to sit still on the rock to take such nice pics? I'm gonna have to get myself a nice slab of granite. It might just be me, but these Gentilis grow slower than any other triangulum I've worked with. They eat well, but just haven't put on the length and size of other colubrids. At what size do you try to breed them? My pair are '05s and the female is just at 20".

Phil,

It seems that most of the milks native to the Northern Plains and Rocky Mountain region grow slower than their southern (and even eastern) relatives. A 20" '05 gentilis is awesome growth - certainly don't be disappointed in that! As for breeding size... That depends a lot on locality. At 20" your female COULD probably breed, but it may be better for her if you wait another year. She'll be able to pass eggs much easier and will be able to produce larger eggs (= larger, easier neonates). Anyway, just my thoughts on the subject.

That was my plan. I'm at the point now with my collection that I'm having to pick and choose what I breed. There just isn't enough time in the day to care for everything, if I did breed them all. I love it! LOL!!
Thanks,

That sounds like a good problem to have, Phil! LOL

Nice looking Gentilis Phil, really like the cross overs on them. I like that their locality animals too.
I resisted getting any Gentilis, but now have a good little group going. I just like Multistrata to much not to have Gentilis in my collection.
I'll post up some photos when I get over some puter problems I'm having w/ my MSN account. Until then here are a few Celaenops (hwy 118) I hatched out this year.

This is a South Dakota Multistrata that I own, and Cole produced.

This is an 05 Bighorn co. female Multistrata that I'll try and breed in 09.

Sorry, I have gone off topic. Stay on topic, Gentilis...Gentilis...Gentilis

Doug, glad you like the Pale. This one has stayed pretty clean looking, as some of it's siblings have news papered up, and lost some of their orange saddles to a darker red/orange saddle. Still nice Multistrata but not as nice as the female you spoke of in the above photo.

Here is a male from the same clucth. He has also held his saddle color fairly well, but has started to add more news printing every year. News printing is fine w/ me, I'd never hold that against a Pale.

I like his head pattern.

Yeah, I agree,....... a little "newsprint" never hurt anyone!

The sibling looks really nice too,....but MAN!, I just can't get over that pretty orange coloration of the female's saddles!!

She's tuff to beat Dell!
