Ok to handle at night?

bruce_y Nov 26, 2007 06:34 PM

Given that beardies are active during daytime hours, is it not appropriate to handle them at night? Or will that stress them out?

Also, how do beardies compare to leopard geckos? Any thoughts either way?

(Sorry for all of the dumb questions...I just want to make an informed decision before I get one!)

Thanks again!

it is best not to handle dragons after their lights go out at night. It wakes them up and they won't get the sleep they need, will be stressed etc.

Short disturbances at night that is infrequent, is ok, but definitely not weekly or more.

As for how leopard geckos and bearded dragons compare...hard to say. Both are commonly kept pets and both tolerate handling well enough though bearded dragons tend to tolerate it much better than leopard geckos. Other than that, there are many differences between the two. Activity time, temperatures, cage sizes, life expectancy, husbandry requirements etc. It is like comparing apples and oranges really...they are both fruits, but both have their own pros and cons.
