More Crutchfield pics from the 80's

HDEAN Nov 27, 2007 03:06 PM

These are the only other pics I have of a few snakes at Crutchfields (Herpetofauna) from the 80's.
These were the first 2 alb Burmese I ever saw. Don't know if they were the original offspring from Bob Clark's first breeding of the hets from Crutchfields Alb Burmese but these were early ones for sure. Also 1 Retic in the background.

I remember your store in Fort Myers in a downtown area I believe and this one was I believe out a little ways and looked like it used to be a convience store maybe converted to your herp store with another attached place for these animals. I don't believe it was the place in Bushnell but it could have been. It was a long time ago. Where was it?

The first store you saw was a rental and my first shop. Later I purchased the commercial property you took these pics at in Buckingham in Ft. Myers, Fl. It wasn't far from where Glades Herp took up residence. Bill Love, a former employee of mine talked to me before they opened up and I encouraged him to do so. My thoughts were the more reptile dealers in the area the more customers you would attract. Of course Bill has been a dear friend of mine for many, many years and I wanted him to do well. If there's any interest I can see if I can post old pics of now famous herpers hangin out and havin fun...TC

to see the pics. It's always great to see blasts from the past and learn more about how this 'industy' grew.

Back then I couldn't wait to get the Herpetofauna or Glades Herp list to see what wild stuff was out there. Still have all those old list. Fun to look back sometimes.

God what I would give to have Indians like those again. I bred pure Indians until the middle 1990's. AGAIN THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES...TC

Do you recall any locality info on that one? It has an exceptionally sharp pattern and appears to be a southern or eastern specimen. The northern and western India and Pakistan forms typically didn't have that well defined pattern. Thanks,

Kelly

Kelly, I got the snake from the National Zoo so I'm not sure of the origin. In the late 1960's a friend brought several back from the Indian State of Tamil Nadu that looked similar. I'm inclined to agree with you...TC

Kelly_Haller Nov 28, 2007 10:47 PM

That makes complete sense that it would possibly be from the Tamil Nadu area. You can definitely see the similar pattern characteristics to Sri Lanka molurus just across the Strait. Thanks for posting.
