In case I ever decide to breed..

What do you guys think..

Nesting boxes with top, or side holes.

Will well fed insects (roaches, crickets, my 11 inch millipede) try to eat the eggs?

Would the eggs hatch if left in the cage (assuming I never spotted them?)

These things make me wonder. Anyone care to shed some light?

if you have a naturalistic setup, your gecko probably won't use the laybox. if you do use one, make one top hole on one end of the lid large enough for the gecko to get through and have some type of hide over it, like a half log or leaves or something for privacy.

i don't know about the bugs, but i don't think they burrow. the millipede won't eat eggs, but might turn or disturb them while digging, i'm not sure but i wouldn't risk it because the embryo might drown. otherwise, eggs have a good chance of hatching in a naturalistic setup, if you could find the babies before they're eaten by the parent(s).

Here are my thoughts from experience:
>Nesting boxes with top, or side holes.
On Top. Side holes allow medium to spill out into the enclosure. Even with top holes, you will get some digging and spillage.

>Will well fed insects (roaches, crickets, my 11 inch millipede) try to eat the eggs?
Shouldn't. Female cresties usually bury their eggs to a point these crickets and roaches shouldn't bother them. Cannot comment on millipedes.

>Would the eggs hatch if left in the cage (assuming I never spotted them?)
YES! I've been lazy a couple of times (actually, the cresteds buried their eggs much deeper than normal and I've had to go in an pull the babies. On one occasion however, I found empty eggs when looking for new eggs. Never found the babies.....
