First attempt at breeding

agirlnamedrita Nov 27, 2007 11:04 PM

I have a question or 2...we have 2 males and 2 females...we put the pairs together...in separate enclosures of course and both pairs were in a lock within 24 hours...stayed that way for about 2 days....they have locked again since then...My question is...since i know that there was a lock...should they be separated now or should I continue to let them stay together?...and how long after the lock should I know for sure eggs are being developed?...the largest pair still won't feed...the other pair have fed since they were locked..I know these seems like dumb questions...but being a novice I can use all the help I can get!

I reckin what i really want to know is what is the time span from lock to laying eggs?

There isn't really a set time from locking up to laying eggs. Just keep pairing them up until you see ovulation or until breeding stops. I think most people separate them and give the male a week off in between locks. This is what I do and it works for me. Some snakes will keep feeding during the breeding season; others won't.

Also, if you want to be able to tell if your females are developing follicles, read the thread below on palpating. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it, and that will give you the best idea of how close your female is to ovulation.

I hope that answers your questions,
Shelly
