If I could, right now I would get a MataMata hatchling.

I know that the phrase "it depends" is sometimes thought of as a wimpy answer, but it's true.
How old are you?
How rich are you?
How mobile are you?
How much space do you have?
Inside or outside?
Water or land turtle?
One turtle or several?
Big or small?
Kept with other animals or solitary?
Rare or common?
Expensive or not?
Unusual or ordinary?
Exhibit or pet?
Long term or just a year or two?
Once you have decided the answers to most (not necessarily all) of these questions, then your choices get narrowed down pretty quickly and it's easier to start looking for a type to acquire.
There is no one "best" turtle for anyone, but there a lot of great choices. Narrow it down a little and get back to us here.
Good luck.
I am 15 years old.
I get about 200 a month.
I can get a ride whenever I need if thats what you mean by mobile.
