rough scales

dcjketner Nov 28, 2007 11:03 AM

I purchased a ball python a couple of weeks ago, he's about 7 years old. I've noticed on the belly side that the scales are kind of rough. Is that normal ? What do I need to do about it ?

I had that problem with a few adult rescues that I brought in.
I fixed it by providing them with a humid hide (a tupperware or something like it that is filled with damp sphagnum moss). They hung out in it all the time, and shed the rough belly scales (along with the rest of their body, of course) within a few weeks. They don't have that problem any more because their skin stays nice and soft and conditioned from hanging out in the humid hide.
Hope that helps!

I have some moss in his hide box, I've tried some reptile lotion also, Hopefully he'll just shed through all that.
thanks
