Ghost Keepers and Breeders...

DavidKendrick Nov 28, 2007 04:25 PM

We have been wanting to get a Ghost/Hypo for some time, but havn't chosen what kind, There seems to be a HUGE variation in all the lines, even within lines, some are super faded with an almost "bleached" out look, while many are hardley noticable that they are even a ghost, almost look normal. My question is how do you pick your Ghosts/Hypos? Does a Lighter baby mean lighter adult? Do the darker babies lighten up with age? do ghosts/hypos generally light up with age? some Ghosts/Hypos seem to turn out really beautiful as adults, I guess I am looking for one that as an adult you can look at it and for sure know its a ghost...lol, what should I be looking for?

I think that an Orange Ghost is the way to go, if you are just going to get one line. I also like the Brian Sharp Butterscotch line. These days, like Pastels, people breed line X to line Y and do not really keep a line pure, so my advice...go to a show and pick out the brightest orange one you can find, with the most faded black. If you are feeling really frisky, you can get a nice Pastel Ghost.

I have had an undocumented but probably a NERD line male orange Ghost and a Bell line orange Ghost. Both were really nice, the male NERD line unfortunatly was never sent back to me from a breeding loan gone very bad. I still have the Bell line male, who is the Sire of my 05 Ember Balls.

If I was buying a male Ghost, I might contact Jon of Nextworld Exotics or someone similar and see if they have any CH Ghost males.

First and last pic, are the NERD, middle is the Bell line.

Just get one of each......

I have 3 differnt lines of ghost.....orange, yellow and citrus.....they all kick ass. If it looks good as a baby it should look good as an adult....I think the orange tend to vary the most....I've seen some that scream and some that are so so....if they are bright and deep orange as a hatchling they tend to be brighter as an adult......but most ghosts get that frosty look to them as they age......you cant go wrong with ANY ghost.

Here are some pics of my breeders.

Citrus

Orange

Sorry, I dont have any current pics to show you at the moment! I too have citrus, yellow and orange hypos. If I had to pick my favorite, it is the yellows. In my opinion they look the most "ghostly" as an adult. The orange and citrus are very nice too and do have "better color" but I would say the yellows have a better iced over frosted look.
