All I know is he is a Cal King. Been asking to see what he is, someone said he was a San diego Local another said he was a Chocolate stripe. Just trying to find out exactly so i can tell people who buy his young what he is.

might need to have a myspace to see it, it was the only way i could get the pictures up.

Sorry the one I need help with is Brutus, thanks

That's a Newport phase because the stripe ends before the tail. The top of the tails are normally and probably always patternless like yours. The Newport phase that looks like that is from Orange Co. There's none in S.D. Co. only stripers.

T.Q. is a Newport and Neeka is almost one. Most Cal kings (in captivity) are really mixed up locality wise, that's why Neeka is a little off for a Newport. You can breed that male Newport to a banded and still hatch a few Newports in the clutch. Nice kings.

Neeka, and laileen and Q.T. are his offspring. Q.T. is from a normal banded and Laileen and Neeka are from a 50/50. Laileen is the only one that came out like that and she a black belly from neck to tail. Isis is the new blood, she also has a partial black belly but i would like to see what i would get when they breed this year. Also Brutus is Het. Albino. Nice little suprise. Bred him to a albino corn and got some albino jungles.
Any idea what breeding him to a banana would give? Don't know the genetics of a banana and how they came about.
thanks

O.K., the albino gene in your Newport originated from a striped Cal king. There's been a ton of Newport X Striped breeding's in captivity. That's why you see a lot of Newport looking kings with a striped, banded, or dotted pattern on their tails. They selectively bred those crosses with probably a few other morphs to make the Banana phase. You can see the Newport influence in the Bananas by the brown on top of the tails and the high amount of yellow up high on the sides. I've never bred a Newport to a Banana, but I imagine you'll get some Newport looking kings with an abnormally high amount of yellow up on the sides like Neeka. Because of the striped influence involved in both parents, you might not get a pure looking Newport, but that's just a guess. My guess is that the batch would be extremely variable, with no two looking alike. Sounds like an interesting breeding. The Newport and striped morphs are not the results of a simple recessive gene, so you can expect to get them in first generation breeding's every time. The black belly is a trait found more often in Newports than Stripers. There's also a lot of "in betweens" which is basically an aberrant belly pattern. Good luck with your animals and nice looking kings.
