HELP!!! My Dragon is Pregant, now what?

theCleaner Aug 24, 2003 06:21 PM

I have two adults together, and have had them together ever since they were 8 weeks old, now they are like nearly 3 years old. I know one is a male, but was never sure on the other, and they have never bred before, but I have been noticeing lately that one (that I always suspected female) was getting fat. Well now she is huge, I rub her belly, and sure enough, it feels like it is full of eggs, there are lumps all in her the shape of eggs. If these ain't eggs, it is some serious cancer, or something.
Besides rushing her to the vet. What should I do, especiallly when she drops them. What should I look out for? How long will she carry them? Also, should I seperate them? If I knew for sure she was a girl, I would have put her with my screamin orange, red and green male (brick red sandfire x snow). Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.....I'm actually very excited about this. :^)

Well if you can feel the eggs, she's probably pretty close to laying them.
You need to buy an incubator ASAP!!
Has she started digging yet?
I would put the female in a large rubbermaid containor, and fill it with several (8-12) inches of moist playsand/vermiculite so she can start digging around.

Good luck, and keep us posted please!

I can feel them alright, you can even see them. I have her in a giant rubbermaid container now, but with the "lizard litter" stuff.
Do farm and feed stores have incubators? What are the specs I need for a incubator?

Turtlegirl Aug 24, 2003 06:40 PM

For the incubator, try calling a feed store or something and you can also order them online.

You female probably will lay 15-25 eggs.
When she lays them, you should carefully move them into the incubator. Set it at 82-84 degrees F. and put the eggs in a containor (inside the incubator) filled with moist vermiculite.
They'll hatch in 65-75 days.

65-75 days?? That's a long wait! Thanks though, for the info. turtlegirl. Right know the male is in there going crazy with head bobbing and she is doing a very slow head bobbing.

BTW: ONe is from the Infamous Zilla x Goldfroggy breeding and the female is from Zilla x Hyper. Having the same dad want make them retarded will it?

CheriS Aug 24, 2003 08:33 PM

the same genetic DNA, not a good formula IMO, but there are breeders that do it, so maybe some of them can advise you better what they experience.

Should you decide to incubate these eggs and hatch them, would you consider participating in a study of them?

Also, if memory serves me correctly, your zilla/hypo beardie is only one of two clutches that ever were produced. The mother died shortly after the second clutch.

Godzilla (zilla) is not breeding anymore, he is retired and doing education peograms with children. So the offspring of those pairings with him are it for this line.

theCleaner Aug 24, 2003 09:18 PM

Yes, Hyper did die after her second clutch, this female was the last female Mickey had. She is yellowish gold with purple side bars, the male is from zilla x goldfroggy and he is orange/red. I did not now Zilla wasn't breeding anymore. I am going to try my best to hatch these. If all goes well and all hatch, I will keep about 5 and trade the others for some more dragons.

WaGuy82 Aug 24, 2003 09:41 PM

So can someone tell me who this famous Zilla is? I know that Chris Allen has some Zilla x Goldfroggy crosses, but where does this line originate from? It seems to be a famous and shortlived one.

Mattman Aug 24, 2003 10:16 PM

Zilla was a dragon owned by a breeder Mickey Hinkle. Mickey you post here a while back and well, his dragons name was Zilla add that to his females and you get Zilla Goldfroggy or a few other he crossed him too. Nice lookin dragons, and quite popular at the time. Chris has a beautiful Zilla goldfroggy. So does Joel I believe. That name got me too when I first heard it, lol.

Godzilla was a very BIG nice male dragon who is owned by a private breeder in California. Several years ago he was a rescue and looked nothing like what he turned into with proper care and nutrition. He shed into this really lovely dragon with nice size, his head size would indicate he was GG or of GG stock and he was very mellow disposition.

He was a great breeder and all his offsping from whatever female he was put with were hearty babies and have the most gorgeous bright gold/orange colors with purple sidebars.

Mickey handled the sale of some of his offsrping

I didn't know that. Verry nice too. Never got to see him just offspring. Very nice dragon. Chris gets many that come out with the same cool lavender side bars. Great examples of it on his jerseydragons website. Sorry knew they were bought from Mickey didn't know they were bred elsewhere. My bad. Glad I seen him though. Now I can put a face to that funky name

active ones with the babies, many people thought that. Heck, I told someone tonight that they can get pinworms from animals, I could swear there was a species of it found first in asia several years ago that infected both humans and cats and another in the US that passed between Birds and humans, I have looked on the web for hours and can not find it, one the one that effects humans, bit those say the most common, so there has to be other...... old age is deteriorating me mind!

Jeff Tillis Aug 25, 2003 09:58 AM

Zilla was owned by Jeff Lux of Delux Dragons.Mickey was buying and reselling just about the whole Zilla line.Zilla was breed to about 7 or 8 different females creating all the different names.I still have one Zilla x Goldfroggy male myself.I did get two Zilla x Hyper babies that both died for some reason within the first week.I also had some of the Zilla x Bazil babies. Most turned out simular to the Zilla x Goldfroggy babies. My one remaining male is still my favorite dragon.Has anybody heard anything of Mickey lately??????

Jeff Tillis Aug 25, 2003 10:05 AM

Here is a pic of my favorite male at about 6 months old.

Yes, Mickey posted about a few weeks ago maybe a month showing off his whole back tattoo. Real nice, but no beardie faces. Bummer. He claims retirement.

That was about three months ago. The big meat head seems to be slowing down now though in length. Which he's done before and shot another inch and 50 grams. I kept records of all my dragons growth and well, he grew the fastest and largest. In the first three months I had him he doubled length and weight first one of my dragons to do that. We'll see just what he stops at. This week he weighed in at 747 and just about the same length of 23. Beginning of the month he was 734 just under the 23 inch mark. So this is really the slowest he has grown in a while weight wise. I have slowed down a bit on the live feeders though. Don't want an obese dragon, but no sings of that by far. Healthy, active, very large, carries it well, and quite the ladies man, lol. Just a wonder all around great animal from Chris. Super friendly he's my couch potato along with fat Anna whose no slouch herself.

love to see the monster in person sometime, wonder where he will finish out at. Chris sure has some monsters, all of his babies seem to grow so large and healthy, its so great, not only that but they are quite the knockouts too!

This was our Mickey, very loved and special dragon, who taught us and researchers much that is helping other dragons today survive. Mickey was infected with a fatal illness by another dragon that came from Fluker Farms. He is always in my thoughts. The little girl that came from JoelR is his niece.

Aww poor girl. Damn them fluckers. No wonder why you hold that new one so dear. She sure was a cutie.

So both JerseyDragons and DragonsbyNature have descendents of the Zilla/Goldfroggy line?

Mattman Aug 25, 2003 12:35 AM

I'm not sure about Brandon from dragonsbynature, but Chris and Joel R do have descendants. Chris has a website and Joel is mostly always posting on here, and sells through the classifieds here.I'm not sure if brandon does or not. I know he has a dragon from chris allen but it was not from the zilla crossing.

thats why she is just extra special to me, beside being "the most beautiful dragon in the world".

Being big kids seems to run in the Zilla line and also the calm temperment.... we have a theory why... but without knowing his genetic past... impossible to prove.

Just no doubt he produced some awesome offspring and their offspring seems to be holding up that tradition.

Joel R Aug 25, 2003 09:02 AM

He too is very beautiful and very calm. These guys are the type who seem to like to be held.

This guy is leaving today to go to a new home. The person who is getting him should be more than happy because he is much prettier in person than the pic.
I do know, he is going to be missed here.

Later.
Joel

CheriS Aug 26, 2003 12:54 AM

only one was the most beautiful girl in the world ;D she thinks so too, that lil gal has most grace than any dragon I have seen, she just knows she is special!

Christyj Aug 25, 2003 08:24 AM

Originally, there was no "L" in Flukers. They just added it to be undercover.
