Update on Jake's blisters...

bizkit421 Nov 28, 2007 09:45 PM

Well, seeing as how I'll get attacked for not spending the money to take him to the vet, I don't know why I'm botherin to post this...
But for anyone who cares, his blisters cleared up on their own after I corrected a temp problem and his enclosure was throughly disinfected...
His appettite has increased, and his personality is back to his usual self. So next time I have a problem, I'll deal with it myself instead of asking anyone here with any "experience" for help.

And if your uromastyx would have died- would we have seen a post from you?

I did not reply to that thread but my reply would have been like most others- seek professional help for the animal presenting with an obvious medical/health condition. There have been many situations where uromastyx have died from blisters such as you described. To come back and slam people who gave you credible advice just because you gambled and got lucky is not something I would be too proud to post about.

You received LOTS of good advice but your back is out of line due to one poster who offended you. Sure glad Jake's doing better but, c'mon, I think you've been served well here!

I did recieve some good advice, but I got way more flak then I thought nessecary...
I'm not quite sure why everyone wants to criticize someone for doing things differently then they would... sure, some of these people have way more experience with Uros then I ever will, but I'd find it hard to believe they never had a problem they handled "wrong" or never made a mistake. Just because they know better now doesn't give them the right to jump down a newbie's throat over something they don't like...
Either way, Jake's better, and I'm done here... I'll go elsewere for advice from now on...help and advice isn't worth getting criticized for every move I make....

I hear you & you do have a valid point. I can't tell you how many people I've seen show up on this forum as absolute newbies & then start spouting "expert" advice several weeks later. However, don't be thin-skinned. There's alot you can learn here. I've been kicked off the forum more times than I can remember but I keep coming back because of all the shared experiences that can be gained here. You & Jake should too.

Well it is nice to find a friendly post on here for once...

I do need to try to figure out whats up with his tail too... it almost looks like tail rot... he had a shed sticking to it when he was given to me, and I'm still not sure what to do for him... poor little guy... Unfortunatly, I know when he's back in good shape again, his "owner" is going to decide she wants him back...

I've had that happen to me a few times, too. People can be so irresponsible.

Forking out money for other peoples' pets isn't all that fun, but sick animals -do- need to be seen by a vet. If I were you, I'd buy the uro from your friend and borrow money to have it seen by a vet. Or tell her that she can either pay for the vet or you can donate it to a reptile rescue.

I Googled rescues in your state and found http://www.forgottenfriend.org/. You can ask the rescue if they know of any vets that can help you out. Rescues have the best connections. =) If they aren't close enough, they might know someone who is.

Best of luck with Jake - he's a cutie!

Cake or death?

Im new to this forum but not new to uros. In general if your uro is showing any sign of skin or any other infection, you need to get it to a vet asap. On another forum I belong to, another user lost her uro shortly after it was showing signs of blisters. Infections can easily enter their blood streams and cause death.

Again, I am new on this forum, so I don't know the whole story of what is going on here, but I am glad that your uro survived and is doing ok.

On a side note, I am taking my Egyptians to the vet tomorrow for a general check up to make sure they are doing ok. Im hoping they get a clean bill of health!
