What name is correct? (Asian Rats)

waspinator421 Nov 29, 2007 02:11 AM

Hi all! I want to get into Asian Ratsnakes very soon, but in my research I have come across something that puzzles me. The scientific name of the Bamboo Ratsnakes are different depending on what site you are on. Some places have them marked as Elaphe, and others Oreocryptophis. Which is correct?

Thanks for the help!!

The latter is probably more correct. Elaphe was recently revised and broken up. There will probably be a few more years of using the two interchangeably, and then everyone will forget they were ever called 'Elaphe,' kind of like Natrix sipedon.
