MEDICAL ADVICE NEEDED

carrot99 Aug 24, 2003 06:35 PM

I just returned from vacation and found my two leopard frogs missing. Luckily, I just found both of them. One is fine but the other one has a cut on the left side of his mouth which I suspect is from banging on the lid to get out. Luckily it does not appear to be that deep but I have no idea of how to treat cuts in frogs and desperately need some advice.
Thank you

Basic amphibian first aid is to make sure they have access to perfectly clean water, keep them slightly warmer, and apply generic triple antibiotic to the wound with a Q-tip. If the frog has to be restrained, use a wet latex glove.

applying a neosporin like anti-biotic to the wound should help. It is important to make sure the ointment does not have any numbing additives in it as this could kill your frog.

Good luck, and keep us updated
