How many geckos?

npmarchand Aug 24, 2003 06:42 PM

I was just wondering how many female geckos I could house in my tank below. It measures 48x17x17. I can always add a few more hides. Right now there is a 5 year old normal and a 1 year old high yellow. The high yellow is still alittle intimidated by the larger normal but she has no problems eating or walking around but she won't really more around that much unless the larger female is hiding. I don't want to put any males in because I don't have the time to deal with all kinds of hatchlings and there is not really the market for them where I live.

A normal ten gallon has around 200 inches of floor space and that one has 816 so if you go by ten gallons per gecko you could put four in there comfortably. If you want to you could put up to eight in there but I wouldn't suggest more than six and four would be great. Of course the less geckos you put in the better but I think up to six is not unreasonable.

I took a crafters foam. Its kinda like very fine styrofoam cut it in half and just cut out the hides and then put the two halfs back together. It actually only took about an hour from start to finish.
