CITES permits slowdown

thatsme Nov 29, 2007 03:50 PM

This thread is to open discussion on the blatant slowdown of USFWS processing of CITES export applications. The problem seems to be getting worse, not better.

Does anyone have any information or comments? Do we need to get congress involved and give the USFWS a kick in the pants?

This CITES situation is really hurting me. I'm an importer from Thailand.

Last year it took my broker 1-2 weeks to get re-export CITES for CH Ball Python. Now it's 4 months already and they still haven't gotten CITES what the heck? I've paid 50% deposit on everything I ordered with them and I'm sure they can't hold those animals for me for this long. I don't even want to think what'll happen once they get CITES.

Some breeders in the US told me that to get CB CITES approved is a very very long term process and it's hurting them too because their customers don't want to pay deposit on animals that will take months to get there. In the meantime, the breeders must take deposit too...

US businesses are being harmed. The time being taken by USFWS for permits is unacceptable. Frankly I'm amazed no else has responded to this thread.

Perhaps a congressman needs to order an audit of the Management Authority Office.

Anytime you have problems with govt. agencies being too slow you need to go to Helen Waite.

Thanks, but are you sure you have her name correct? I Googled [Congresswoman Helen Waite ]and didn't see anyone listed in the results by that name.

I can see I'm wasting my time here in thinking this forum is credible.

Thanks for pointing that out, though.

I do not think it was meant to be deceptive, I think instead it was a vent of frustration from a fellow sufferer.

These forums are far from a waste of time, but the people here are people from all walks and experiences... diversity is part of what makes this work.

I don'tthink many people here are familiar at all with cites and the import/export side. Most of us are just customers or people concerned with whether or not they can keep a certain species in their town or state. They don't know anything about the cites process and simply have no info to share.
