Another incubation question

Kingofspades Nov 30, 2007 04:19 AM

Ok, so I set up my incubator wicked early to work the kinks out of it. (It's my first one)
I know the usual incubation temp is 88-90.
Mine seems to fluxuate between 89.6 and 91.3.

Would that kill eggs?

I'm going to turn it down a bit to see if I can keep it from going over 90, but I was just wondering if 91 would kill eggs.

Thanks,
-KOS

I don't think thats too bad of a fluctuation. Just think of maternal incubation in the wild. I'm not an expert on this by any means (maybe others can comment on this) but I doubt that in the wild, the incubation temps stay exactly 89.5 for two months straight. There is probably a degree or two in either direction that the temp fluctuates, maybe even more? So the bottom line is that 91 isn't going to kill the eggs. Good luck!

Personally, I'd rather be a little too cool sometimes (87 - 88 degrees) rather than a little too hot. Hot will kill the eggs for sure, cool will just mean they take a little longer to incubate.

Just my two cents!
