I am a little confused about what a basking spot temperature actually means. Bloods/borneos are supposed to have a basking temperature of 90 F, but does this mean air or surface temperature? I was testing temperatures with a probe and with a 100 wat red basking bulb I set a probe on the bedding and it rose to about 114 F, but when i picked it up and shielded it from direct rays with my finger and held it about 2 inches above the substrate it comes to about 90 F. Is this correct or should I use a 75 watt instead to get the surface temp closer to 90?
