JUST WHAT IS IT ABOUT BOAS?

jscrick Dec 01, 2007 01:44 PM

I've been into reptiles as long as I can remember. This love has grown into a full blown obsession with Boa constrictor ssp., morphs, localities, etc. I feel I must obtain and experience all of them. That statement sounds like a good thing for the trade, no doubt about it. Others have previously expressed similar sentiments. I know.
Not really sure why. It think it may be the live bearing thing. Any other opinions why these majestic beasts are so irresistible?

I've pretty much kept them all. None of them do it for me anymore like they used to. Just boas.

12 months ago I had only 4 boas I'd hung on to.
Since then we've produced 16, sold 14, and purchased 50. Think those numbers are correct. That leaves me with 56 Boa c. ssp., locality, morph, variants right now. 4 pythons only other snakes purchased in last 12 months. 60 Boids total now.
Seems like it's just the tip of the iceberg. I'm not bragging. I know most of you guys produce 100's a year.
Bottom line -- I bought 50 boas within a year. Didn't even put a dent in my desire to own more
I've got Boa Fever real bad!

That's because boas are Best Of All!

I used to have a large collection of corn snakes and 1 boa... now I have a decent collection (no-where near 50 tho!) of boas and a pair of corn snakes. They've taken over. Boas are impressize with their size yet are still managable by one person (in general). They have such a variety of colors and appearances. I love looking at my snakes and almost being able to read their minds, they are inquisitive IMO.

I also personally have a soft spot for ATBs. My small collection of those is also slowly growing. (still a boa though!)

Take care,
April

I just love this pic...

I like ATB's too. My boas are mostly 07's and a few 06's for the most part, so not so unmanageable at this point. Maybe get 2 females to produce in '08, 3 females to produce if I get real lucky.
