I'll presume most of you know what a water python is. I use one at the shop. I'd love to have one with a remote, so I dont have to go back and forth. Plus a heavy duty version.

Turn water on, scrub, hit remote, suck water out, repeat repeat. One more of my ideas tht will come out in a few years.

Buy a little water pump that you can hook a hose up to the intake on (I've seen them for $20 at pet stores). Put it in a bucket beside the tank. Voila. Remote control water python.

Or, you could use a canister filter for an aquarium. Just take out the filter media. I have instructions somewhere for how to make a super cheap micro canister filter. . . hmmm. . .

There you go. Put the intake tube in the cage you want to suck water out of, put the output in your sink, a bucket, floor drain, whatever. To fill up the cage first, just reverse it.

Just make sure you get a pump with enough power to push the water far enough. I'm sure you can find one cheap somewhere.

When you do a large portion of a 75 gallon tank you need a big bucket.!

Now is that a straight line or what?

All joking aside, I believe that noone answered your question properly. You have a "pvc-style" cage and you are wondering how to remove the urates, correct? I have found that using a plastic putty knife (available at Lowes or Home Depot in the paint dept.) scrapes the surface without any damage. After removing the bulk of the waste, you can use hot water and a bristled brush to remove the white urates stuck to the plastic. Hope this helps.

I was serious. I use a water python. It hooks up to a faucet. Allows suction or water flow. I turn on hot water on low, start to scrub, reverse it to suck. Keep repeating. Hence the need for a remote. For now my remote is the othe worker lol.

If you look at one, its not high tech. And you can make one out of a cheap cone hose nozzle, a T copper fitting and some silver solder.

Some day I will make one.

In my pvc enclosures I use a scraper to knock loose any sticking urates, dump in a small amount of soapy water, scrub down, then use a small shop vac to suck up the fluid. All done and done.

The water python just seems to waste a lot of water IMO, no offense. Just get a plastic paint scraper, toothbrush and a little cleaner. I use a diluted Windex mix, but even strait water will work. Just go to town on it. squirt squirt, wait 5 mins, scrape and repeat. Works great and your not wasting gallons of water since the faucet needs to be running for the suction part of the water python to work. I know once its sucking, you can turn the water down to a trickle, but its still running.

lol that was great... i dont know about anyone else who read this thread but i got a kick out of it

to actually answer the question... after reading the other posts.... NO!! there is no easier way to clean the cage lol after all that

a spray bottle, paper towel and a little elbow grease is what it takes, yeah a scraper would come in handy too. lol so have at it
