Enclosure

rappstar609 Dec 02, 2007 03:07 PM

Its funny someone asked if i was going to build a custom enclosure for my sav, cause i just did this last night. now, i swear i wasn't on drugs at the time of building this, but i did it in pretty much the most retarded way i possibly could. 1) I built it all out of wood. obvious problem number 1, i will not be able to spray in it to keep the humidity levels up. number 2- the wet eco earth substrate is going to just keep the base (which is plywood) wet all the time and eventually it is going to rot away. c- i did not (yet) build a top for it, so humidity levels will not be up. 3- crickets can apparently climb masonite (the sides) 7- My sav is going to go back to being a shy sally becuase i built the walls of solid masonite so she cannot see what is going on and B) the thing is too dam big to ever reasonably clean.

Im a dumbass.

That being said. I am going to modify it and pretty much use the wood as a frame and lay some plexiglass inside of it, build a top, and perhaps a metal base that can easily be removed for cleaning.

The only good/cool part about it is the custom stand above it for my 20 gallon tank holding Kevin the Blood Python : )

here she is: (laugh away)

thats a sick setup. my savs humidity levels, even in the previous enclosure were never up too high. i mean i didnt go to any extra efforts in raising or lowering the humidity levels, and she is fine and dandy. i have never checked the humidity levels though...but why should i? shes doing great! so i think this enclosure just needs some 'tweaking' and it will be alright. Im gonna cut the front side of masonite out and create a 'window' if you will of plexiglass so i can watch her and she can watch me, Then ill make some sort of a rigged up top to hold the heat and humidity in a little better. other than that it may be okay. well see. i think im gonna put a plexiglass band around about half way up so the cricks can only climb to a certain point then fall back down. i like to feed her the cricks cause she is a fat cow and the only way she excercises is chasing cricks around.
she would go nuts if i put her in a small thing filled to the brim with crickets though, i couldn't even imagine haha.
