irherps Dec 02, 2007 04:53 PM

Is there anyone manufacturing an aboreal cage suitable for these guys. Id like something at least 6' and vented really well. Thanks Ian

not an expert by any means but cages by design builds cages big enough and they r very nice but ud have to figure out a way to give them enough dirt to burrow either way prolly be a lot cheaper to build one urself

not really, you might be able to fing you a Custom Builder. prasinus like alot of humidity, so a well ventalated cage might not be good for them. it would probably be easier/cheaper just to build a cage for them.

Ive been keeping prasinus for a good wile now I dont like to use any substrate and I use a pro products misting system to keep the humidity verry high. The two cages I have now have rotted at the bottome even with using an apoxy sealer. Thanks Ian

In my custom bathtub and shower stall units I also used no substrate!
These custom enclosures would be perfect for you.
To clean them I would just pull the plug and spray the whole enclosure down.
Very efficient and they NEVER rott!

None that I know of.
You don't want too much ventalation, Prasinus require high humidity.
I used to used one piece bathtub and shower stall units for my Tree Monitors.
I customized these units into very functional enclosures.
Pretty comparable cost wise to commercial units that are not even large enough!

where do you get this kind of lizard? I have not seen them at any shows...I did some research on them however and they are very awesome.

Sorry about the quaility, but these are pictures of pictures.
First photo is my Custom Bathtub enclosure for my Jobiensis, next a Custom Bathtub enclosure for my Beccari, and last a custom shower stall enclosure for my Prasinus.
All of these photos are from the 90's.

Here's an enclosure I made after looking at Mike's pics from his old website. Thanks Mike for the idea.

Here's a few more pics. The look of the enclosure's inside changed a few times. I never drilled anything into the walls. I used the pvc frame to attach everything you see. I also had a misting system that washed most of the waste down to the bottom. I drained it every other day. Very easy to maintain. Highly recommend it.

A few more.

Like others said, Too much ventilation is not good for this species. They require lots of humidity or they will dehydrate real fast

Here are pictures of my setup I made for my pair.
The dimensions of the cage are 8x2x6 built of 2x4, presswood and hi-core ( coroplast
)

I covered the entire bottom with some kind of pond liner to make sure no water comes out. I also added a drain that you dont see in the pictures.

I also covered the walls with plastic aquaculture netting. I was using cork tiles before but its a lot more expensive and I had to replace it on a regular basis.

Finally, I put big peices of bark so they can hide between the wall and the bark. The space between is an inch or less, so I guess they feel more secure there.
I also added some vetical trunk with a diameter of no less than 4 inches. I think this is a really important thing in a treemonitor cage, cause instead of going crazy when I enter the room, they just hide on the opposite side. And they prefer wider trunks to small branches.

At the bottom, there is more than a foot of mulch mixed with compost, plus a bunch of oak leaves.

As you can see on the pictures, Im trying to grow some plants in there, have nothing to lose.

There is also a mysting system to make sure the humidity stay high.

Stunning cage you have there, very nice job. I don't know anything about Prasinus I would love to one day though. I was just wondering, everything in there looks to be vertical, is there anyway for the lizard to position themselves horizontally or is that not an issue with these guys.

Probably a weird question but like I said I know nothing about Prasinus. I am assuming maybe they drop down to the ground or are they totally arboreal? Again very nice setup, I can tell you take good care of your crew!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Jason
