The great escape 2007 - foiled.....

rainbowsrus Dec 02, 2007 06:57 PM

LOL, I was in the snake room cleaning today, everything was going fine and when I turned to take out a full bag of trash I spotted Reeses making a break for it. From a locked cage none the less. I have him in a boaphile 421D with the added center lock and had not done the corner locks and he was most of the way out already. Guess he's had his way with Candy and on the prowl for his next conquest!!!

And I found this pic from 09/21/2005, this is how he looked when he arrived.....

Its amazing the way some of these snakes get better with age like a good wine.

rainbowsrus Dec 02, 2007 07:25 PM

Yeah and by far he's turned out the best for what he is. I have higher dollar snakes that have not turned on the color like he has!!! One of me BEST acquisitions!!!

When I lived back home my nephew decided my snake wanted to come out and play. So at roughly 6months of age my dbl het female went on a tour of the house for about two weeks. Heres a pic of the conspiritor and my late honduran female may she RIP.

sorry for the poor quality was taken with a camera phone.

JackJebus Dec 02, 2007 08:00 PM

forgot to say I had worried she had gotten into the furnace but my sister found her laying safely on the book shelf next to the computer. She never wanted to use it again for yahoo canasta! :D

rainbowsrus Dec 02, 2007 08:58 PM

I believe the latches are stiff enough they can't turn them, my prob was I had not latched the corners. I seriously wonder if she's no longer putting off any pheromones???

i still dotn trust them since i live in the same room as they do i dont feel lie waking up to bein bit and wrapped by a snake or worse me rolling over on one lol. oh and i must say dave reeses is looking HOTTTTT in those pics between him and amber i seriously envy you along with those pearls

rainbowsrus Dec 02, 2007 09:56 PM

I hear ya, way back when, over 20 yeare ago I had a gopher snake in my bedroom, it got out and I found it in my waterbed, was soaking up the heat. At least I found it after work, not in the middle of the night!!

Thanks, Reeses has to be one of my best acquisitions, along with the pearls!!

For the boa folks, the pearls being referred to are BRB's with the side spots being full color, not just a crescent...

I came across an entire litter of these gems and bought them all, 2.6 how's that for a sweet deal??

Here's a funny story -- When I was a kid I had this big female Colombian Boa. She was 8 feet long and weighed about 35 pounds.
I kept her in the walk-in closet in my bedroom. Didn't have a cage big enough.
Well one day the boa was gone. She was on the loose. After 2 days of looking all over the house, how could a snake that big be so hard to find? I was about to give up when I got the idea to look up under my parents bed into the box springs. There she was. Had been there for 2 nights seeking solitude and warmth. Didn't know it at the time, but later found out she was gravid. It was a good warm place for her. That's for sure.
My parents were good sports, to say the least.

That would have been funny. Didn't happen fortunately. After that incident I sold her. Found out later she'd dropped a large litter of stills.
I didn't even know she was gravid.

boaphile Dec 02, 2007 09:00 PM

He heard me beckoning for him to come here to Minnesota where he belongs Dr. Colling! I think it's pretty obvious he wants out of there and over here. You think it's coincidence that the day after I begin coveting him that he tries to escape and crawl all the way here to Minnesota? I think not. You are deluding yourself if you think otherwise. He wants to come here and have his pick of the many girls that will make up his harem when, not if mind you but when he arrives safe and sound at the Boa Black hole.

I double dog dare you to show him this girls picture... She awaits...

rainbowsrus Dec 02, 2007 10:09 PM

I printed out the picture, put on the floor of his cage for him to look at and you know what he did all over it!!!!

I'm still looking for the electronics you musta hidden in the plastic. I too find it very coincidental that the day after you find out about him, his cage is mysteriously unlatched and he's being lured out. Now I know why you sell your cages so cheap, they're really recruiting boxes for the boa black hole!!

If you really want him to have his way with that lil lady, send her on vacation to California.

To all of you, I share your pride and enthusiasm.
Ain't it grand. It's kind of like old what's his name (George Peppard) used to say on "The 'A' Team", "I love it when a plan comes together".
Some high and lofty goals for me to strive for, indeed.
You guys are great!

Is that paper substrate stacked up on top? Where do you get that from? Beautiful snake by the way.

rainbowsrus Dec 03, 2007 11:01 AM

Thank you! Yes it is paper substrate. Indented craft paper I purchase by the roll from uline.com I made a jig for my table saw so I can use the fence to measure various length pieces for all my cages (cut with box knife, not table saw). When I get set up to cut more, I cut a lot and had just replenished that pile.

My big girl has "learned" how to turn the center lock (which is lockable with a key) - but she has only done it when she is very hungry. She can't turn the side locks. altho I've seen her try.

Dave you literally are bursting at the seams with snakes now so what the hell you gonna do when it comes baby season It don't mean anything but I would put him back in for a day or two and if he is at the opposite side or trying vigorously to get out then who you putting him on? How is Cinnamon doing with the Abby fella or you might throw Reeses on her, best of luck regardless as always
Bob

rainbowsrus Dec 03, 2007 05:02 PM

I'm planning on converting part of the garage into a second snake room. I already have lots of racks from Barry Berg, currently unused, so caging is not an issue. Just need room to set it all up.

I believe that Candy and Cinnamon both have all their buns in the oven. I was looking through my pairings and didn't see anywhere else to put Reeses for now, most pairings I have are for a specific result and the ones where Reeses could pinch hit for me are already going at it. Next year with Reeses proven, I'll have additional females coming of age and will keep him real busy!!
