Anyone have an idea on what this is. It supposedly came in on a load of lumber from China.

But from a blurry pic of a baby of this origin I do not dare to try ID. I have lots of ideas what it could be. But I am not able to decide which one to favour...

Here is a photo of an H.turcicus that is around a month old.

I'd second that. Also, maybe a desert banded gecko? Doubtfull though.....

The gecko of question seems to be missing the whitish tubercle scakes which are very typical for H. turcicus. Also the head is significantly more elongated as for most H. turcicus.
Thats why I said no.
Still its true that very many gecko species look very similar as juvies.
To me it may still be a hemidactylus spec., a Gekko spec.. A Lepidodactylus .... So I am not sure.

My guess would be H. garnotii

Ingo,

I agree, the gecko in question does not seem to have the white tubercle scales, but it is hard to tell from the photo. In my area, H. turcicus varies quite a bit in regards to color, pattern and even head size. It probably isn't H. turcicus, but I believe that it is definitely in the Hemidactylus complex. Juveniles have less pronounced tubercle scales, but we still should be able to see them in the photo. Thanks for your input.

From its toes, it didnt look like a terrestial gecko, and it also dont look like a hatchling of Chinese Leopard Gecko.
It seems to be the hatchling of an African Gecko (cnemaspis africana) to me. But is elongated head also seems to be a Common House Gecko (hemidactylus frenatus) and Jawa Bow-fingered Gecko (cyrtodactylus javanicus).
Well, the resulotion of the photo are quite blurry for classification^-^".

Another question to peregrinefalcon, you have a great collection, and I am curious to ask what is the different between Borneo short-tailed python and blood python, they look great! Is it just the same different between Borneo blood python and red blood python?

Yes, people call them many different names. I prefer to go by what VPI calls them: Borneo short-tailed python (P. breitensteini), Blood python (P. brongersmai) and Sumatran short-tailed python (P. curtus). I don't think it makes much since calling them all blood pythons when only one species is blood coloured. Thanks for the compliments on my reptiles! Your collection is pretty awesome too! Gotta love the leachies!

Thanks for you compliment too. Well, Gecko requested not a huge spaces as with other herps, so, they are my first priority. And I am actually starting too try on some small lizard right after.
Thanks for you explaination, I love Red Blood Python very much but I have heard that their temper are unpredicable, aren't they?
Besides, anyone got an idea of what species the mystery gecko is?

Blood pythons and short-tails can either be really nice tame pets but they can also be crazy little biters! Usually the aggressive ones are wild caught, so if you are getting one then get a young CB. My P. brongersmai is the nicest, calmest snake I ever held. I probably couldn't get it to bite me if I tried! My Borneo STP on the other hand is pretty tame when in your hands, but when it is on the floor or on a counter it gets very tense and has bit at me a few times. It did get me once, but that was a mis-aimed feeding strike. I heard the P. curtus are the tamest of the three. You should get a blood or short-tail, they are very interesting snakes! And not too hard to take care of
