help! beardie turned really dark

zachL Dec 03, 2007 03:16 AM

i came home tonight and noticed that Toki had turned from a light beige to almost brown, this startled me as my previous dragon had done something similar right before he died, when i picked him up he seemed to flush back to a more natural look, but still a little darker than normal. am i over reacting and he was just comfy and warm? or should i be worried? any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, my previous beardie was sickly for the entirety of his short life, he wouldnt eat or drink no matter what i tried, and all his brothers and sisters were also sick, Toki my current beardie has been with me for 3 months and seems to be happy and healthy. sorry for the novel. thanks again for any help, Zach and Toki.

Beardies darken to absorb heat when they are too cool. They get lighter to reflect it when they are too warm. I'd just recheck your temps. 85-90 air temp. on the hot side with a 105 degree surface temp. basking spot and 75 or lower cold side air temp.

i dont know how he could be cold, he was laying out right under his heat lamp.

He wasn't necessarily cold he may have just wanted to be warmer.

It could be just getting ready to shed also they turn darker when that are ready.

he is back to normal now, i guess he just was trying to absorb all the heat he could. thanks for the help everyone,
