Box turtle habitat

Trumpet1 Dec 03, 2007 09:51 PM

I plan to build an outside habitat for my two box turtles when the warmer spring comes. Would it be safe to plant lives plants in the habitat, and what else should I include in it?

There are sites online that have poisonous plant lists. But some good ones are ferns. I have heard hostas are good. They are nontoxic and are great cover.

Here is a shot of my turtle village.
I have tried something that the locals here call spinach, strawberries, something in the radicio family, molokai sweet potato, papaya, various grasses, various weeds, ti plants, dandelion.
I don't see that the gang of 4 eat much in the way of greens, but must do.
good luck./p

A few considerations
A) Where you are and what plants will grow in your area
B) What plants are suitable for your species of turtle
C) How much room you have for plants

yep, room for the plants.
I have to cut back, throw out, winnow, etc about every 3 months.
Another thing to think about is eggs.
If your turtles lay eggs, it becomes a precarious digging dilemma.
I don't want eggs, so it isn't so important to me, but most do.
