african soft fur rats?

derekdehaas Dec 04, 2007 11:45 AM

i am picking up about 40 of them for free today. i found it in my local craiglist. my question is when they are fed to my snakes (frozen thawed) will they get hooked on these kind of rats?. it would be great for my hatchling grantie burm who is picky eater and he only ate for me once in 2 months i had him. i also have 14 other snakes i could feed them to my pines/bulls/gopher. thanks.

I only run into problems with "cross feeding" different types of rats when it comes to my baby ball pythons. They do seem to get hooked on ASF. I have had rat snakes, bull snakes and kings all go back and forth of the two different types of rats with no ill effects. If it does become an issue, buy a few mice to thaw with the ASF - kind of like senting. Also, if your burm isn't eating, try dipping the prey item in canned chicken broth - it's like python crack...
