what to do about fleas?

frostypaws Dec 04, 2007 12:12 PM

OK, so my 13 year old cat has been at the vet's for 2 days because she was severely dehydrated and anemic, possibly due to a heavy infestation of fleas. Both her and my other cat received Frontline. I don't think we have bad fleas in my house, but they're definitely around as both my cats had them. My cat is coming home today and I need to know what we can do around my house to get rid of the fleas, because I have 2 snakes and a leopard gecko, so I need to know what to use, and what not to use in the house because of them. I've started to wash some of the clothes and blankets and things my cats have slept on, but what about the carpets, floors, and furniture?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Get a good kennel/floor spray that kills any flea life cycle. Move the beasts to another part of the house. Spray the floor/ furniture and let it settle and dry. Repeat....
I have herps, birds and beasts....I have never had a problem. Just be careful.

I was at the Anaheim reptile show this year talking with Dave Barker of VPI. The discussion was about snake mites and the latest product he was recommending was Sevin dust. So happens it's also good for killing off fleas!!! So kills fleas and is safe for your snakes!! Win/Win (unless you're a flea or snake mite)
