A male I picked up over the weekend. Looks like he's getting ready to shed but you get the idea. Easy to handle and doesn't musk.

A beautiful & majestic looking snake but I have to admit not having ever seen them before. Tell something about the species, if you would. Your first pict caught my eye for reasons beyond the snake itself. It's nice to see that we're not the only ones maxed out on cage spaces. When the dining room table is filled up, where next???
Take care.
Well, they are an asian species that grow rather large an have a somewhat bad rep with regards to temperment and musking (hence the common name "stinking goddess". They grow pretty big and girthy. Males can get 7' and as thick around as your wrist. I currently have 2 and previously had a pair that were het for albino that I reluctantly sold during a move. All the ones I've had never bit or musked. My previous pair was flighty but the two I have now are pretty downright tame. That being said I've done an impersonation of a pin cushion while holding a couple adults at shows. Overall I think you will see more of these in collections as more captive bred individuals are available. Or maybe I've just been lucky with my small population? Oh yeah, the space issue. It's getting BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
That's a real beauty. Congrats!

Don, I'm curious where you just "pick up" something like that.
I've not seen a carinata in any collections or at expos in Texas. If people have them, they are rare and well-guarded,
especially killer adults like that.

It seems to me that more are available as of late. I've actually seen several large adults that were captive bred up for sale at the Hamburg,Pa show. With regards to this animal, I'm with you. This thing is unreal. Maybe the nicest one I've ever seen in person. I walk into the show and my girlfriend has to use the restroom. While I'm waiting the first table I see has this guy, for what I consider a very reasonable price. Needless to say he was purchased before see got back. The look of despair on her face was classic!

Just to clarify I'm refering to the adult.
I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure I've seen a few listed in the "other snake" category of the classifieds recently, although it might have been "old world rat snakes" I sorta doubt it as I have only checked there a couple times before ever.
Sean.

Awesome colors. Really interesting Asian species. Now you just need a nice lady snake to pair him up.

King rats are just so impressive in size and color.Even in blue it's outstanding.Im glad that all the passed down myths of them not being handable and spraying out gallons of crap arent always true.I have a wc juvie western coachwhip that has never struck at me and is calm as can be.Hell I had some hypo corns that bit, musked, and would never settle down.

If lead paint is so deadly why do they make it so delicious?
