Midnight Snake - OT

medyssa Dec 04, 2007 11:08 PM

Yes, that is spelled correctly. I got a new snake last night at midnight. But I didn't even know I was getting a new snake.
Aaron, my awesome boyfriend, woke my tired butt up at 11:00 last night calling me on my cell phone at home I am dogsitting at which is an HOUR away from my work due to traffic. So I have to go to bed early in order to wake up at 6:30 to get to work by 8. Anyway, I don't remember the first time he called, but then at 11:41 he called again and said he got me a new baby snake.

My mind is slow to process this, all I really register is "new snake" and I automatically go into OH CRAP mode since "new snake" typically equals, "my mom is going to kick me out this time for SURE" mode.

Fifteen minutes later I have taken the dogs out to potty and I have made myself a cup of tea and then Aaron is at the door with a snake bag in his hand.

Change of thinking...Fortunately my mom adores my boyfriend, this means I get a new snake AND I'm not in trouble.

SWEEEEEEET!

He got me a yearling Ball Python (aka "pet rock" according to Dave) which he had found for free on Craigslist from a guy who had it dropped off by someone who regularly bought fish at the aquarium supply store this guy worked at. Somewhere down the line (I havent gotten ALL the details yet) the little baby burned itself on it's heat rock.

Side note: I HATE heat rocks. Most often you find them as the ONLY heatsource in snake cages of lazy owners and they wonder why their snakes get burned. THEY'RE COLD. Heat them properly and they won't burn themselves. GRrr.

So with some neosporin, a moss box and some TLC I think the little guy/gal will be just fine. It looks like it should be a yearling but its so small. Getting a nice meal this week.
Any other recommendations are always welcome.
YAY new baby!

Congrats on the new Ball!

I see them on Cragslist all the time here from people who no longer want them, got bored with them, or they are in really bad shape. It seems that people pick up these impulsively because the normals are cheap, and the word "Python" seems to attract people for some reason. I have seen it many times when talking to people that don't necessarily know a lot about snakes. They always want to know if I have any "Pythons" but can't always name a species. If they can it is always a Ball.

I am glad to see it go to a great snake keeper... I know you will take great care of the little "rock"!

Yeah I have had BPs before and I am not a huge fan of them but this little guy looks like he's got some moxy. When I checked on him this morning. Unfortunately he wasn't as warm as he could have been at my boyfriend's house but now he's at mine and all snuggly.
When I looked at him this morning he seemed to have a look that said "that place sucked. If you can't do better I'm going to bite you on the nose. I'm COLD!"
I think I am going to call him Sir, although I guess I better try to find out his/her sex before I make any real name plans.

Congrats on the new rock!!!

Most likely a boy as the females are kept for dominant morph breeding.

A;ways glad to see one ending up with someone who will care for it. So much of the "low end" stuff gets sold as impulse purchase pets and lose their luster after a poop or two and really lose their luster after a bite!!
