How many???

stylindawg2006 Dec 05, 2007 12:03 AM

I have a male pastel that is around 675 grams. He is breeding like crazy right now. How many females could I pair him with? He has bred 3 different females so far but I have 2 or 3 more females that are ready to go.

I've heard of a male BP that bred and fathered 10 clutches in one season.

Make sure you put him back with all of the females at least three to four times.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Good luck

As long as you are giving him a day or two off every week and offering food (even if he refuses it every time, you should still offer it) every 7-10 days - he should do just fine throughout the breeding season.

A good schedule to follow would be:
3 days with female "x"
1 day (24 hours) in own tub
3 days with female "y"
1 day (24 hours) in own tub - offer meal - if meal is accepted be sure to give another 24-36 hours alone.

Keep repeating. You should be alright.

Just so you know, you don't have to breed the females more then once every 3-4 weeks or so. Since they only produce follicles/eggs yearly and not monthly like humans, breeding them more often then that will most likely not increase the chances of them being fertilized and will just mean more work for your male.
