What and how do you all feed your anoles?

lele Aug 24, 2003 10:04 PM

When I say "how" do you just let the crix loose in the enclosure? I had chams before and one would always cup feed, another would sometimes and the thrid would only eat if she hunted it herself.

I don't like the idea of leaving the crix in there. I do put in apple and crix food for any that are not eaten. One of mine ate ph crix from a cup but it was when I first got them and the poor thing was probably starving (pet store rescue). I was thinking I have 1 male and 2 females but now I am thinking two males. Their behaviour is changing and I have not been able to sex them yet. I know my bahama is female.

Anyway, back to the food questions...do you find that they eat hydei fruit flies at all? I have them for my gecko but I don't know if they are too small. I have no idea how old my guys are but they range 3-5" s/v. I did get a few butterworms (trevo) as a treat and the two greens really liked them. I have yet to see my Bahama eat anything - ever!!

thanks,
lele

I feed my green anole the following: crickets, hoverflies, houseflies, greenbottles(type of fly), small spiders, crane flies, small moths and i have offered him woodlice before but i have never seen him eat them. I plan to buy some waxworms next time i go get some crickets too, to vary his diet even more. I put vitamin and mineral supplement on the crickets at least once a weak and at the most twice a week. My method of feeding is to just drop them in the enclosure for the anole to hunt. But when i feed him waxworms(hopefuly in the near future) i will put them in a small dish type thing so they don't burrow into the substrate. The items of food are usually eaten within minutes. I feed the green anole 4 food items a day usually, because its summer and we all know that reptiles eat more when its warmer. But i am going away for 3 days soon so i am feeding him 6 food items a day up until then.
Hope this answers your question.

Thanks. I have gotten them to eat trevo worms (buttterworms) but rarely see them eat the crix. I think there is a personality conflict going on so I may have to separate one for now to ensure he gets enough food.
