Is Black Knight II safe for rat tubs?

ballzy Dec 05, 2007 07:36 AM

Is Black Knight II safe for rat tubs? I assume that it will kill rat mites as well as snake mites. I would also imagine that if it is safe for reptiles it would be safe for rats but was just wondering if anyone knew for sure from their own experience?

Remember that mammalian physiology is very different from reptile physiology. Every aspect of the rats' metabolism is lightspeed compared to that of the snake. I would consult a vet first...

BK-II kills insects, period.

it will definitely kill those bugs in rodent cages, but if they are feeder rodents, i would be careful. you don't want to spray it in a tub, have it come in contact with the outside of the rodent (the fur) and then turn around and offer that to your reptile. they would be ingesting the insecticide on the fur directly, and that is not what you want.

if you are spraying a rodent breeding colony, and not immediate feeders, then you don't have the same concern.

i have never seen BK-II have a negative effect on rodents at all.

Just spray the bedding, don't spray it directly on the rat.

I've used provent-a-mite on rat tubs/substrate with no ill effects and that is why I thought BK II would probably be safe as well. I've heard of others spraying PAM on cotton balls and after it dries you give it to the rats to use as bedding.
