For those who were wondering...

No, I never did find my little kingsnake. I'm afraid she probably managed to get outside. I haven't even seen any signs of her being in the house, i.e.. shedding, poop, etc. We have heard odd noises here and there, but haven't even caught a glimpse of her. I tried letting my cat in the house to see if he would locate her, but no luck there either. It's been so cold in the house that if she is still inside, she's probably brumating now.

That sucks Holly, she was a nice snake.
A looker, and always ready to eat.

turn up th heat in your house to 90f and leave it that way for 12 hours. Then put a few shallow water dishes in corners and the snake will show up for a drink.

I'll try that, but I think I'll wait until one of our 70 degree days. Of course, this depends on whether she's still in the house.

I'll try.

Don't give up hope, snakes have a way of showing up at the least unexpected times and places.

In the mid 80s I got an albino cal king on the first friday in December. When I got home from work on Monday, three days later, he was gone. Searched, searched, put a mouse cage in the room, no sign. Was leaving the house one day the next March, four months later, and there he was on the sidewalk. Not likely, but always a chance they'll show up when you least expect it.

I have had good luck catching lost snakes with the upside down tape method. It has worked the two times I tried it.

Just tape - lengths of tape sticky side up across all closet and room doors. Just don't use something as sticky as duct tape with such a small snake.

Everyone is assuming the snake moves about. What will bring the snake out of its cramped hiding spot is water. If it gets warm the snake will start to crawl and look for water. Otherwise it will probably dehydrate right where it is. Neonates can dehydrate in a short time.

Especially if it's cold outside. Their instinct to survive will more then likely tell them to stay in the warmth.

That was one of my main concerns, dehydration. There isn't really any water around in the house, such as pans under a houseplant or anything like that. I've also been concerned that she might get into one of the toilets, looking for water, and get flushed by my toddlers. They wouldn't know to look for her or anything like that. I'll see if I can get the house a bit warmer and put out some water dishes with a little flour or cornstarch around it, see if I can find a trail.
