hi all, I've been thinking of getting a gray-banded kingsnake for awhile, but lately I've been more serious about it. Being in Virginia, I had never seen one before until yesterday...the Petco here has a baby one in. It was pretty, but not exactly what I want. It's very similar to the one pictured at the top of this forum (second pic) but it has a narrower orange band, then a "dashed" black one, etc. Will it always have that look, or will it change, and if so how much? I really like the one in the other pic, with wide, bright orange bands. Who out there has some like that, and how much do they run? Thanks!

WOW! Show off!

wow, yes, those two are beautiful! Where do you find ones like that? I did some searching and found a few breeders who sell them, but I would be afraid to get one without seeing it first (I have gotten snakes online before, but for those I wasn't too picky about how they would look)

My grey-band has devoloped white around his black borders as he has aged.

...exactly like yours! That's the look that I really like. Again, who is selling ones like that?

I bought mine from a breeder at the Columbus, OH show in Aug., but he also goes to the venomous show in Jefferson and the Cleveland show. If the July show is near the end of the month he usually has a lot of blairs. He has alterna phases and blair phases, mine is a blairs. I think they are about $75 - $85.

thanks for the response! The only show I've been to is the northern virginia show (been there twice, just got home like an hour ago from my second trip). I've not seen any gray-banded kingsnakes there at all, and they had many many kings this time! I ended up buying two snakes at the show (an adult dumerils boa and a baby yellow amazon tree boa) so I'm gonna have to wait awhile to get one now! lol I think if I could afford everything I want, I'd have 40 or 50 different snakes!

If there were kings than odds are there will be grey-bands in the summer. These snakes are more than worth the wait. You could also check the classifieds grey-band section.

"I think if I could afford everything I want, I'd have 40 or 50 different snakes!" I know exactly what you mean every time I go to a show I feel like taking half the show home with me lol.
