Ball behavior in new housing

Bonecrusher01 Dec 05, 2007 01:28 PM

Hello I have owned snakes before, (2 Bannana Boa's and an African Rock Python) and non have acted like my new young Ball Python, she's rubbing her face all over the terrarium, wont go into her retreat box, wont really do anything but try and climb to the roof and rub her face on the screen, and the glass, also the associates at PETCO said she wouldnt eat on her own she has to be assisted, I'm assuming she isnt very old (a little over a foot long) has no mites, ticks,or any internal parasites, I keep her temp around 80 degrees, and try to keep her humidity at or around 60-80% is there something I'm doing wrong or should I just give her time? If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it I absolutly adore her and dont want to lose her.

Nevermind she just ate her first adult mouse today I guess the pet store didnt grasp the concept that she may not like prekills, the mouse was alive and didnt even last 5 minutes

the rubbing on the tank and screen may be a sign she is trying to shed....my snakes get pink bellies then turn a grayish color and thier eyes cloud up...usually within 2 wekks after the eye thing they shed

Good job. Sometime we have to be creative and think beyond the box to figure out what our snakes want and need. If one thing doesn't work then try another then another and so on.
