I'm sorry to hear that, Chris. I am curious as to why you have to get out of the hobby? Nothing too serious I hope!

P.S....Check your e-mail.

Chris,

I'm very grateful to you that you allowed me to acquire some of your animals but, sorry that you decided to part with them...

Let me know if you decide to get back into herps again bro...You'll have the picks...

Nice to see a progeny from a "box of thayeri eggs"...I look forward to your posts from time to time...

By the way, it's good to see your nature photos from around your neck of the woods...I'll hope you'll continue to post pic's from your "field trips"...

Take care bro,
Jim.

Thanks Jim,

I'm really really glad that you got some of my favorites. I had big plans for Lester. You are going to be suprised at what pops out of his loins. Those leopard leonis genes are definately in there. I can't wait to see what comes out of that male GBK too.

I can not wait to see either...I've been doing some research about the "White Leonis" project but, it's not ready for discussion yet...Might be quite a while but, I've been working on it for quite awhile already...

Check your email...

Later bro,

I am very sorry that you will not be breeding anymore and consider myself VERY fortunate to have picked a few up from you last year, they are screamers. Let me know when all else comes through, I feel very fortunate to carry on your line of animals, and look forward to producing some of the same! let me know if you ever get back in it, I will have a pair or trio reserved for you gratis!

I'm sorry you won't be producing any more of those incredibly beautiful babies. I am so glad I was able to buy one of your babies. I am really looking forward to holding her and admiring her once she is ready to come to her new home.
I hope you will still have pictures of your gorgeous snakes on your website.
Best wishes.

Hey Chris heard some rumblings from Russ a few weeks back that you might be getting out. Sorry to hear that but not keepong snakes isn't the end of the world. I seem to remember a "favorite things" photo from you and if memory serves you wont have a lack of hobbys to keep life interesting.

vichris Dec 06, 2007 10:14 AM

I do enjoy life. Between 3D archery, hunting for elk, deer, oryx, turkey, bears, pheasant, etc....., skeet shooting, photography, flyfishing, camping, motorcycle riding, astronomy, gardening, coaching softball, reading, other stuff and work I have plenty of hobbies to keep me busy.

Chris,

Yeah, I remember this photo...I think you posted in response to the other "VCHRIS"...

Yes, that's a nice set of "hobbies"...rather passions man...I limit myself to deer, turkey & deep sea fishing (both top water and bottom) out in the Gulf of Mexico for the "food" related hobbies. Herps and stamps are the other two...

Later,
Jim.

Thayeriman,

I'm originally from the Mobile County (Alabama) area...I used to spend a lot of time at the Flora-Bama, Barefoot and Pink Pony down in Gulf Shores...

I still have family down in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach and I go out each April for the Snapper Tournament and an occassional tuna trip...Although not since Katrina which messed up (still not fully recovered) top water fishing west of Boloxi...

And Hurricane Charles eliminated most of the shallow water fishing reefs...Making things tough for the local boat captains...

What about you? Are you from down there?

Later,
Jim.

i'm in west palm beach and always fishing or hunting. I travel the state from sebastian to the keys and on the west coast I would have to say the flats fishing in pine island has to be the best.I also have a very good friend with a piece of property in cedar key where I mostly hunt and collect but the only problem is I only find hots there still cool though.

Thayeriman,

Cool! The farthest east into Florida on regular basis was Panama City...Spring Break commuting down 231 from Troy, Alabama but haven't been that far since '82...

The entire "Redneck Rivera" has changed since the hurricanes beginning with Frederick!!! To much commercial development and condo's from developers that has ruined the view and "bumped" up the insurance rates for the locals!!!

I've seen some of the "flats" fishing on some of the early morning shows...Nice Tarpon and Bone Fish (plus the occasional Tiger Shark)...All from "fly" rods!!!! Would like to try that one day though...

I do some occasional "inland" trips in the Intercoastal Waterway for White Trout and fish the shallow-water, "lee-side" jetty's with live shrimp for flounder...Use sand flea's for Pompano from the surf in the early morning and cut bait for Red Fish, Whiting and the occasional King in the evening from the "passes"...Have to deal with the Stingrays and Catfish though...

Later,
Jim.

Chris,
I know all too well what you are going through. I haven't lurked around here in a year, but I still miss breeding mexicana. One day though I am sure to get back into it. I still think about it all the time.

And to everyone else......Hello

Hell must be freezing over. I never thought I'd see you post here again. What ever happened to big Yeller? Did he die?

jlassiter Dec 08, 2007 02:27 PM

Yes...I am SAD to say Big Yeller is no longer with us.

To get the story correct......Here it is:

In the Spring of 2006 I had 30 or so adult pairs paired up. The Springs down in South Texas can be pretty harsh (90 to 100). Well, some pairs were just not enthused about breeding so I cranked the A/C down to about 65 and set them by the window since a Spring shower was rolling in. I went to work and came home to see my A/C was not running anymore.......12 pairs (24 total adults) perished in the hot temps.........I was sooo disgusted I sold all of the remaining snakes I had. I do have one snake I collected in Benicia, CA, but it is surely no Mexicana. My wife feeds him while I am off around the US working.

I have not lurked around here in a long while, but the bug is there in me........I have decided to start building a breeding stock (hatchlings, sub adults and adults) but this will not be until Febrruary or so of next year.......Spring IS a good time to buy as I recall......LOL

I am glad to see a lot of familiar names here and even happier to see some new ones........Chris....I do not know your situation, but there is life after snake breeding.....Prioritize your life and your hobbies will all come back to you.

~John~

vichris Dec 11, 2007 05:49 PM

"Chris....I do not know your situation, but there is life after snake breeding.....Prioritize your life and your hobbies will all come back to you."

John,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this..........but I don't think you have a clue as to why I'm not going to be breeding anymore. It has nothing to do with prioritizing my life and I doubt that would magically make my hobby (snake breeding) "come back" to me. As for the rest of my hobbies and life they haven't changed much.

I guess now that you have your priorities straight you can get back into it. Good luck building your collection.
