Kind of a newbie question, but im not scared to ask

How long from the time the geek starts to turn grey till they actually shed. Looked at one of mine today and she seemed alot greyer then yesterday, so im assuming shed time. Cranked up the temp(couple degrees) a lil and humidty too. Also, since i dont know jack about these guys. When does there pattern actually change? Is it always or only when they shed or what?

Mine usually shed within a day when I notice them looking dull. Their pattern changes when they shed.
