Fallen milk

wvherp Dec 06, 2007 08:12 PM

I was changing a light in my milk's cage (07 pueblan) when she just shot out of her hide and out the cage. She fell about 5feet to the floor, concrete basement. I immediately picked her up, she fussed a little like she always does, musked, but then calmed down. Did not notice and protrusions or bruises, but she scared the heck out of me falling that far. What should I be looking for in terms of injuries, behavior?

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much but, just keep an eye on it,make sure it eats o.k. etc.By the way, what part of W.V are you located??I'm originally from McDowell Cty. I moved to Va. in "81.I miss those hills and the timber rattlers!! Take Care! Jeff Cochran

Yeah, I tend to agree with Jeff!,...Snakes are amazingly resilient to falls and such. That has happened to me many times in my 40 years in the hobby. If it seems to act normally as before, and eats,....then passes a resonable looking stool, then I would'nt give it any more thought. Generally, the lighter the animal is, the less it will be hurt in a fall. For example, a 150 pound python falling from the same distance in relation to it's size, would have disasterous results. On the other side of the spectrum, an ant falling from the Empire State Building would NOT be hurt at all, and would continue on it's merry way once it landed on the ground. It's all basic physics.

"little dude" should be just fine in other words.

Doug, Jeff, thanks for the reply. You put me more at ease. I checked on her this morning and she appears OK. Her scheduled feeding is in a couple of days, will know more then.

Jeff, I live in Wheeling, far away from McDowell and those timbers!! We still have the beautiful eastern milk to excite us though!! Take care.

Another I wouldn't be to concerned about it, snakes in the wild I am sure fall from great distances, heck there is even snake that glides..

Over my years I have dropped many of snake from distances greater then 6 feet and they are all perfectly fine. But it does give me a scare lol..
