AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cenobite74 Dec 06, 2007 08:58 PM

I posted a reply below as well but I've been at this almost ALL day now!!!!!

I noticed that my 2 month old creamscicle shed this morning and pulled the shed out then had to run to work.I have her in a 20L Zilla tank and apparently in my rush broke off one of the plastic clips. There is about a quarter inch opening at the top where the locking clip was now. When I came home from work I started to clean her water bowl and noticed she was no where to be found! I have spent the past 7 hours turning my apartment upside down and still no sign of her! Trust me the tank is empty. I live in Alabama and it is pretty cold here now so I don't "think" she got outside. Any advice would be great. I plan on trying the tape thing Don suggested but if there is ANY thing else I can try...................

Keep an eye on warm areas of the house, My male was gone for 8 months. My wife found him one morning in the shower "LOL I could only imagine" he was very skinny and had several scares but for the most part was very well for being out for 8 months. Also if you breed your own mice put a cage on the Flore with a mouse in it "keep the cage closed" you don't want to feed the thing just attract it. One time after several weeks I found a Gopher snake that got out. He was located coiled on top of one of my mouse cages. Good luck

First thing I have to say,Don't give up!! If possible ,I close the door to the room the snake is in.Turn off the lights, then about every 30 mins. or so go in the room and turn the lights back on,do a quick scan. This works for me almost every time. Good Luck!! Jeff P.S. Repeat the above steps until you find your critter!

I agree with Jeff. I have had more than my share of escapees and have found 99% of them. I usually put a towel to block the crack under the door. Keep the windows closed. I noticed that my snakes come out about 12am to 5 am. I usually check every half hour through those times. During the day, I check under everything in the room. Anything that the snake can crawl in or under.
I have found one of my babies curled up in my rodent cage after it ate a whole litter of pinkies and was too fat to get out. That was my fisrt escapee, and found by accident.
You can try putting meals out, do the tape. Kathy Love also recommends in her book to lay flour out in lines. This way when the snake moves over it, you can track its movements.
You can also try laying different "hides" on your floor.
One key peice of info. Even if you have looked in one spot more than once, look again. That millionth time is the one that catches the snake. lol

I posting this under "escapee" as well..........

After the ear piercing scream I heard coming from the office... I ran to my fiancee' who was going through some baby clothes in a trash bag to get rid of before our baby comes. Come to find out our little corn was wrapped around a onesie inside the bag!!! Both are fine now though I think after the scare I almost became a daddy tonight!! The tank is secure now. Fixed the hole where the clip came off and saw her try to get out again to no avail but will be keeping a xtra set of eyes on her from now on! Thanks everyone for your help!

Wow what a relief! You must be psyched!

Curious about this though, your snake went right back to the same spot from which it escaped earlier? Pretty smart, huh? Cool.
