We ship as long as the night time temp is 20* or above. We use 3/4" foam insulated boxes via superior enterprise. We lay a thick layer of ruffed up news paper ( crumple it up then slightly smooth it out so it adds some thickness and air flow for the heat packs. We put 4 small nail holes on each side of the box for air flow, without it the heat packs dont work.

After we have a 3"+ layer of newspaper in the bottom of the box we put the deli cup or snake bag in, and form newspaper around it to keep the animal stable, and warm. After every thing is layered below and around the animal/container, we place a piece of news paper over the animal ( 1 sheet folded into 4 pieced for a small box, more for bigger box) to make sure there is a barrier between the heat packs and they animal. Tape your heat packs to the top of the box, 1 for a small box, 2 for a larger -16x16x9 for example. When packed like this we have had no problems what so ever.
We shipped about 120 boxes last winter in 20* weather and everything made it safely. Just make sure you drop the boxes off at the latest time possible, and you should be good to go.

Which carrier do you use? Fed-Ex, Delta, etc. If Fed-EX, did you have to jump through hoops to get a live animal shipping account.
Thanks Mike

We ship smaller animals, and lower end orders fedex and larger or high end animals delta dash. We also use delta if its really cold and we need to ship that day.

Fed ex wasn't to bad to get certified, a few years ago when we had a snake get delayed, the customer called fedex to get more updates, and they gave the snake to a local zoo in TN.

After a few dozen phone calls, and a month or so of waiting, we sent in our box test, and got certified. Best bet is to be persistent, and just strait out tell them if you can't get certified then you will drop them and ship delta or another company.
When we said 300 boxes a year gone they were more than happy to get stuff done.

Good luck with it, I have heard it is harder now.
