Update and pics

GrotesqueBurgess Dec 07, 2007 06:34 PM

I got the new rescue burmese probed today and it is a female. I'm trying to think of names. Any suggestions?
If you need pictures, there are some posted in a few posts down.

Here are some new pictures of Pixil, exploring part of her cage:

Is that a custom enclosure? Can you post a pic of the whole thing? Im trying to get ideas for my burmeses enclosure and ie been looking at differt peoples enclosures to figure it out.

It's got a solid top except for the area where the lamp sits on in order to let air in and out as well as heat from the lamp.
The front has drop-down doors (the style will probably be a pain once she's a bit bigger, but I'm going to have to upgrade before she's full size anyway.
It's acrillic on the sides and back, with a marble pattern to look nice plus be easy to clean. The bottom and front are glass. The top is metal, but I don't know what kind.
I got it from a place called The Aquatic Critter.

I will be redesigning the interior soon to look more natural, but Pixil seems to like the wooden bench I put in there. She uses it to bask on as well as to hide under.
I might be able to incorporate it into the new design by adding vines to it or something.

The cage cost $248.00, which isn't that bad considering it looks nice (to me anyway), is easy to clean, has front opening doors, etc.
It'd probably look nicer if I remodeled how I keep my thermostat, temp sensors, and humidity sensors up (with all that black electrical tape you can see in the picture).

Looks pretty nice Sara. Does Pixel use the half log hide?

yeah she does. I was lucky to find it too. I was walking through the reptile isle and they had all the normal "xl half log hides" and then there was THIS ONE which is a good twice the size of the regular XL, and I managed to get it for that price anyway. She'll outgrow it in a few months, I'm sure, but I might keep it in there anyway, as she uses it to aid in shedding.

I was just wondering because my dwarf babies are the only ones that use a hide. The half dwarfs, het lucys and albino lab all stay above the newspaper, unless they are in shed. Then again, they are all in 32 qt. boxes in a rack, so maybe the whole cage is a hide. Haha.

Hi Sara!
I'm terrible about not naming my reptiles. I'll call my adult female burmese "gal" or "big gal" and my male "boy," and one of their hatchlings "lil' un" (lttle one), but they don't have official names.

Once in awhile a characteristic will jump out at me that brings a name to mind, like my okeetee corn snake has a perfect "E" in the middle of her back that made me immediately think of the name "Ellie" as in "Ellie Mae Clampet."

Looking at the pics of your rescue it appears that it's not the traditional "big-blotches" pattern, and more of a marble type (or labyrinth like) pattern. Being a girl I might call it "Mable," which is "marble" minus the "r."

That sounds silly, crazy, even. But I've got a good excuse; I'm a hillbilly. Heeheehee!!!

Just for the record, I also realize that what I'm calling a "marble-like" pattern is different than what's recognized as a marble morph.

The bench in the pics of Pixil in her cage threw me off, making me think that it was a cage built around a china cabinet of some other furniture. Ha! Ha! That may be what got "burmeseman07" too. Lookin' good.

Have a good one!
