My Set-up...Awaiting BrD

palouch86 Dec 07, 2007 09:18 PM

This is my set-up for my baby beardie that is coming. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to improve it. His basking tree will be a little intricate to climb, but I think he will figure it out. Right? Thanks for the help

i would add more hides and more climbing spots. make sure your temps are set before he gets into it. its good because that tank will most likely hold him for ever. how big is he gonna be?

you say its a baby coming i would keep it like it is simple. when he get older i would step it up if you would like but this is just fine

I think it's good for a baby also as long as that tree can't fall over if he climbs out on the branch. I'd move the UVB so it is above the basking spot since that's where he will spend most of his time. I assume that's a 55 gal. and is 4' x 1', an adult would need a 4' x 2' enclosure. Just add some thermometers, and a food and water dish and you'll be set.

You can move things away from the ends of the tank... The one third of the tank can be the warmer end, not just the little 5th of the tank it is arranged as right now.

I would put the basking spot right in the middle of the right hand 'third' of the tank, station the basking light directly above it alongside the UVB bulb so your dragon will have full exposure to both. If the cool end is too hot, you can move the basking light more to the right if needed but I don't think it will be necessary giving hte size of that tank.

Make sure the basking log is sturdy, so it won't tip over if the dragon is out on a limb. I suggest drilling a couple holes in the bottom of the log and using a piece of clothesline and some 2-part 5 min epoxy, glue the wire in and attacked the log to a 1"x6" (or wider if needed) board maybe about 8-12" long, depending on the length of the fancy branch. This will ensure a good sturdy base and the log won't fall over. It will also make it more sturdy for the adult cage if you plan to use sand as well, the base support can be buried in the sand, but ensure a solid contact with teh bottom of the cage. (dragon can't dig underneath it and risk having it fall ontop of him.)
