Tricks for eating

fatscales Dec 07, 2007 09:20 PM

Hey everyone, I just picked up a yearling albino san diego gohper on monday, problem is I cant get him to eat f/t.

Whats a good way to get him eating f/t? Braining-cupping? he is really shy and does not bite amazingly, but he tries to flee like crazy. when I tried tease feeding with him he ignored it then tried to run away. I left the fuzzy in last night and figured he ate in the morning because I didnt see it, only to find he pushed it out of the way under his hide.

I think he has been eating live because he did deficate, but showed no intrest in a thawed fuzzy. Ive never had this problem with a pit befor so any advice would help.

Thanks,
Shahe

Your snake may also need some time to get adjusted to its' new home, as your snake sounds nervous and fleeing.
I would cut down on handling him for a week or so, and see if that helps it calm down some.

Scroll down to an excellent post on this topic. It was happening during the week of Thanksgiving, and some great ideas were exchanged. Good luck!

Ive switched several animals from live to F/T. I let them settle in for about a week first. Next I let them go about a week to 10 days past their normal feeding day so theyre good and hungry. Then I warm up the pink by putting it in a baggie in warm water. Drop it intheir shoebox after dark, and leave them overnight. They usually hit it within 30 minutes.

He's young and has only been w/ you for a very short while. Mind you, I've never switched a CB gopher to f/t before, but I have had success feeding WC Gophers pre- killed. That said, I would continue feeding live for now, and wait to try f/t when the snake appears to become more "comfortable" w/ you or more settled into his new home. Best of luck.
