'Retes Stacks'

dlaxplayer4691 Dec 07, 2007 10:17 PM

Hi, i was wondering when building retes stacks, how close should the monitor be to the bulb? is it all depending on the temp? and should all the holes be aligned, because i find it seems it will be hard for the argus to climb up. Im also scared he will fall in the hole and go all the way to the bottom. Thanks - Joe

what you are describing are "PE stacks" : )

Retes Stacks don't have holes. perhaps you have read our stacks FAQ. if so, check it out again, especially the reason why we use the holes, how tall to make them (it is about temp not height) and the most important part- apply the theory, not specific directions.

do what works for you in your setup : )

and no, your monitor will never fall through a hole, kind of like a cat : )

o ok thanks. But on Pro Exotics thats how they describe Retes Stacks, and there are just variations. The problems is just that trying to find a old thread on them is a [bleep] which is why i just start new ones. How much room should their be inbetween each layer of PE stacks then? My baby argus is only 1 foot so maybe 2-3 inches?

robyn@ProExotics Dec 08, 2007 05:56 PM

you are missing the point. the variations are YOURS.

how much room between stacks? well, how thick is YOUR monitor?

should there be holes? i don't know, do YOUR SETUP need holes?

APPLY THE THEORY, the idea. thin pieces creating a wide temp gradient under the basking light.

the point is, there are LOTS of ways to achieve it. take a moment, look at your setup, and apply it. if it doesn't work or turns out dorky, scrap it and do it again.

o ok thankyou.. and im sorry to hear about your water monitors tom, that mustve been terrible. but thankfully i dont have 20 feet high cages so my argus will only fall 18 inches or so if he does. My theory of unaligning the holes was to prevent incidents like yours.

dude...

he was joking.

well i wasnt sure. i didnt think anyone would have a 20 ft high stack of PE stacks but i wasnt sure. if it is true i feel sorry. Can you please let us know if its true?

tpalopoli Dec 10, 2007 03:54 AM

yes I was joking...just do what Robyn says and your critter will be fine.

actually I had a 20 foot PE Stack (20 sheets - widely spaced) once with all the holes aligned and all 15 full grown water monitors I had fell down the hole to their deaths. I couldnt get down there so I had to use a spear gun to pull them all out from the top. It was horrendous, a tragic day for all involved. I can still hear their screams when I close my eyes.

What a tragic story. Sorry you had to go through that.

My rudi is known to jupm from his basking spot when he hears the latches open.
That's 7 feet straight down.
The critter likes to eat, what can I say.
He has been through a lot, no injuries.
These critters are tougher than you give them credit for.
