Screen Top??

dlaxplayer4691 Dec 07, 2007 10:57 PM

I have my baby argus in a 40 gal breeder tank as of now. It has a screen top on it and this is why i need so much heat going into it because it is all just leaving. What are some good ways to keep the heat in so i can still move my lights around up top? Just so everyone knows, i am planning on building a bigger cage in the near future. Thanks - Joe

Try tin foil or plastic wrap, works good in a pinch!
Hurry and build another enclosure.

O ok. I ended up covering it with newspaper and taping it just to the top of the cage. I was a little afraid that plastic wrap might melt to the screen.

black smoldering smoke or a clean flame. Maybe you should use tin foil?

i plastic wrapped the screen top and put it on covering about half of the tank leaving room for the heat lamp. it worked pretty well.

This worked very well for me in a quarantine enclosure.

Nice handywork. But whay not go a step futher and just mount your inside, under the top? You could just hang it by the cord, it would take you 3 minutes to do so. Then your light is closer to the basking spot, and all heat and humidity is trapped inside.

MikeT,
1) This way gives more room for a "retes" stack (forgive me Frank.)
2) The three minutes it takes to mount the light inside would have doubled the amount of time I spent fixing the top. HAHA

The enclosure I have the ackies in now has 2 basking spots and all the lights are mounted inside. Of course that enclosure is a lot larger than an aquarium.

cardboard covered in aluminum foil, and held together by foil tape. works great and is very safe.
