thin gecko

kklimeck Dec 09, 2007 10:30 AM

ok,ive got a gecko thats been looking pretty thin for about 2-3 weeks. although it still seems to have interest in food but i never see it eat... ive tried feeding it with tongs and it bit at the cricket but only took the leg. im kind of thinking though its not parasites, because theres another gecko in the cage with it that seems to be perfectly healthy. im going to get some meal worms some time today or tomorrow and try those. but if anyone has any suggestions/ solutions or has seen this problem any help would be appreciated because im trying to keep from dumping tons of $ at a vet... (although i will if nothing else works)

thanks

First try seperating the two. It sounds almost certainly like a dominance issue. Have you ruled out parasites? A fecal or two at the vet should be well under $100.

Get the poor thing to a vet and yes take it out of that enclosure. I vet office visit is only $10-$25.

I had the same issue with my Leo early in the year. I introduced andother Leo to the enclosure (Both females and both roughly the same size) but my first Leo started to go down hill after a few weeks. Firsts signs where she wouldnt come out of her hide and then she would only eat on occassion. I brought her to a Vet who did a stool sample and said all was ok but still she wouldnt eat. I tried everything except seperate them and this was to be my downfall as she passed away about a month later. Then all the advice came in telling me to seperate but it was to late by ten. Dont suffer the same fate as i did....seperate now.
